Keep on keeping on

The past week has been hellish. Between getting mugged, taking the GRE, and getting mugged, I haven’t been very good to my own body in terms of eating correctly (I’m talking Taco Bell, Steak & Shake milkshake, and popcorn all last night). I’m going to turn it around next week, and try not to be angry with myself for my lapse. It really makes me feel awful—stomach cramps, diarrhea, and sluggishness—I don’t know why I do it to myself. Either way, I have a new determination to keep on fighting the good fight.

This is nuts to me: 5lbs in one week? I haven’t been doing anything but eating paleo–not even exercising! I measured myself at the same time last week. This feels pretty awesome. Paleo ftw.

I’m about to embark on my first “cheat” day, which will look nothing like the 4HB cheat days that I used to partake in. I’m allowing myself cheese (primal), chocolate (primal), red wine (primal), and one food item that’s completely off the diet on Saturdays. Keeps me sane, folks!

Happy Halloween!

We ended up giving out berries and apples to the neighborhood chicklets. I kind of felt like my neighborhood orthodontist who would pass out toothbrushes in vain when I was a kid, but at least you can eat apples! These masked kiddies’ parents should be thanking us.

Overall, today was a bit high carb. I didn’t have time to make a good breakfast, which meant I got a fruit smoothie at work. Fruit smoothies are not terrible, but they still have 68 carbs (or at least the one I got). I think that so long as it’s not a regular thing, indulging in the occasional smoothie isn’t detrimental to paleo.  Continue reading

Stocking the Fridge: Before and After

After not grocery shopping for longer than I care to admit, I FINALLY restocked my fridge. It looks so much better.

Before:

  • Cheeses, salsa, mayo, cat food, expired dishes/veggies, maple syrup, water

After:

  • Top shelf: ground beef, ground turkey, steaks, bacon, quail
  • Middle shelf: eggs, grapes
  • Lower shelf: olives, tomatos, red leaf lettuce, boston lettuce, kale, carrots, lemons, cucumber, broccoli
  • Left drawer: cauliflower, green pepper, red pepper, onions more broccoli
  • Right drawer: grapefruit, apples, pumpkin

Thank god for the farmers’ market! Continue reading

Wings! Wings!

After not grocery shopping for quite a while the past two weeks, I found that I barely had anything to eat in my apartment! I ended up ordering wings for today, and I’m getting up early to go to the farmers’ market tomorrow. It feels good to be back on track.

Two eggs (Breakfast).

Lemon-pepper wings (Lunch).

Small apple (Snack).

Lemon-pepper and hotsauce wings (Dinner).

Totals for October 29th, 2011

Until tomorrow,

Well, this is painful. After leaving the diet for several months, I have gained over ten pounds since last May. But this is why we get back on the horse, isn’t it? These will be my new base measurements.

Height: 5’1″
Body Fat: 30.62% Up 4.15%
BMI: 25.6 Up 2.1

Okay, so that’s a lot of red. It’s pretty painful to write this out, to see how much I’ve let myself go. Health needs to be a centerpiece of my life, and these measurements bring me back to reality. Back on the wagon.
